Gas Prices Are Too High

It seems like every day the price of gas goes up. With so many people driving, the gas companies are making a fortune, and because there is no cheap alternative they can charge whatever they want for you to fill your car. Increasing gas prices are causing financial problems and raising stress. Clearly, something has to be done.

That was the original opening paragraph to this website, but times have changed. Now that the price of a barrel of oil has been staying between $30 and $40, it stands to reason that the price of gas at the pump should be down around 50-60 cents. Instead, we see the price remaining steadily above 80 cents, and the big gas companies continue to collude with each other, not competing for our business at all, which is brutally obvious by the fact that in a given area, all stations have exactly the same price, regardless of company. This has to stop.

"But what can I do?"

What the gas companies seem to have forgotten is that we live in a consumer-driven economy. It's all about supply and demand: when demand is high and supply is low, the price goes up. When demand goes down, so does the price. This is just as true when it comes to gas prices as with anything else. All you have to do to help lower gas prices is lower your demand for gas.

Together we are strong. Together we can change the world.
